WA Tour

Indie Bar rocking

Interview at ABC Bunbury

Yep, it was short and damn hot but we got through. First stop was Indie Bar in Scarborough. A classic venue with some great bands who have graced the stage in the past. We got up, went to work and played to a ‘ready to rock’ crowd. The next day we headed down to ABC in Bunbury for a radio interview with Ron Tait. We jammed out two songs unplugged and had a chat before moving on to Margret River. Check out the interview here.

Settlers Tavern in Margret River is huge where the locals know good music. We got the crowd up and dancing from the get go and kept them moving until closing time, yuss! Margaret River is a must see town stopover.  If you haven’t been, get there.

The Cat sleeping

Last stop was Caves House in Yallingup for a Sunday session. With a massive beer garden and the best accommodation it was great venue to have last on the list. It was fine day for playing music.

Special thanks to Bec and Jess at Indie Bar for arranging the night and the after hours swim, and Lara and Leah for kicking on, getting some beers and playing some awesome drinking games at Caves. Also big thanks to Gregos for the last minute accom and the use of your kit.

We’ll be back.

Port Fairy

With only a couple of days back in Melbourne after the WA tour, we were off again for 3 nights at our second home, The Stump in Port Fairy. We played three nights alongside our friends Centre and the South and The Quality Lightweights. Kick ass times, plenty of beers, late nights, great people and good music. Thanks Peta and Willow for having the lads and the Buddha in a Chocolate boys for the fishing.

Goodbye to ‘a rock’ and welcome to a new Son of May.

As people grow up, lifestyles change. Rob has been a fantastic drummer, a good friend and the voice of reason when on tour. A founding member of this band, Rob now has a beautiful family and thus has moved on. While he won’t be a stranger, we wish him the best on his journey and look forward to some future BBQ’s and a good ole chin wag.

Enter Harry aka ‘The Cat’. A great player who had the monster task of not only filling Robs shoes, but learning 20 songs in a couple of weeks prior to our WA tour. Harry has joined us to continue our journey and we are excited as hell to have him in the family. Welcome aboard mate!

Port Fairy – Our Little Festival

Posted on by admin in Blog | Leave a comment

Everyone that was present at the Port Fairy, “Our Little Festival” weekend would agree that it was a killer time. Massive thanks to all for making it such a cool weekend. Special mention to the community of bands that provided the sights and sounds. Centre and the SouthKashmere ClubDapplegrim BandThe Grim Fandango’s and a special mention to Adrian from Buddha in a Chocolate Box for organising the festival. Tip of the hat to you mate.

Highlights include:

  • Billy from Kashmere Club having his hair chopped off during their Saturday night performance. All in the name of raising money for November.
  • Our good friend Chris at Mojo’s sponsoring 20 odd Zambooka shots for the bands on Saturday morning at around 11am. Not feeling the best after a big night.
  • The drunken conversations taking place at 3am. This included the movie Sharktopus, Kmart jackets, Rugby World Cup and the liver being able to repair itself. Nice.
  • The army of 200 drunk people turning up within 30 seconds for Buddha in a Chocolate Box. Where did they come from?
  • Playing through a great sounding PA system with a couple of outstanding engineers behind the desk.

We played two sets over the weekend which proved interesting in seeing what songs got the better responses. Luciel, Disappear and Walk Like That seemed to have taken out the top three which hint’s that we need to record those and unleash them among you. We had a great response and gained some good contacts. Hopefully we will be back at the Star Pub for Port Fairy Music Festival in March next year. Fingers crossed.

If you’re kicking around Port Fairy on the 18th and 19th, we will be back with Centre and the South and Buddha in a Chocolate Box. Make sure you join our Facebook page to see the details as they come through.

Next Gig: Cornish Arms – Sydney Road, Brunswick
When: Sat 12th of November
Who: The Sons of May, White Summer, The Quality Lightweights, Jude St Jude

The Hamilton Roady

Posted on by admin in Blog | Leave a comment

A little over 3 weeks ago we embarked on a trip to a little town in rural Victoria named Hamilton. Our good friends Centre and the South worked out the details including accommodation arrangements, sound system and the free beers.

We arrived at the accommodation close to 6pm and checked in. Whilst we thought that there were going to be three beds we soon found out that there were only two. A queen and a single. Hmmmm we thought. Being gentlemen of the world and having been backpacking, this was not an issue (I had my sleeping bag with me to provide any barriers of unintentional contact during the night).
